5 Classic Trucks From Ford Motor Company

Ford will forever be ingrained into the history of automotive production due to early innovations that shaped not just the automotive industry, but the way the entire world operates. Vehicles like the Model T and the Ford Mustang will be remembered as iconic cars for years to come, as they should be, but it’s important to keep in mind the lasting impact Ford has had on the pickup truck segment, as well.

From the introduction of the company’s first ever pickup truck in 1917 to the 2018 Ford F-150 being named Motor Trend’s Truck Of The Year in 2018, Ford Motor Company will forever be a mainstay in the production of pickup trucks due to their continued commitment to producing quality trucks.

Below are five pickup trucks that helped define Ford’s status as a world leader in pickup truck production.

The 1917 Ford Model TT

Just like the Model T, the Ford Model TT set a new bar for the production of automobiles. The Model TT would go on to serve as an early benchmark that would influence the development of pickup trucks in later years.

The 1948 Ford F-1

Ford’s F-Series is now a household name due to its unrelenting power, quality and capability and it all started with the Ford F-1 back in 1948. It was the first post-World War II truck design from Ford and featured a 6-and-a-half-foot bed.

The 1953 Ford-100

Release in 1953, the Ford F-100 built upon the successes of the Ford F-1 and had one extremely noteworthy feature — it was the first automatic pickup truck in Ford’s F-Series. It also featured an improved engine and larger dimensions than the first generation F-Series.

The 1975 Ford F-150

In 1975, a legend was born. The Ford-150 was introduced to customers offering a truck in between the F-100 and the F-250. This allowed Ford to avoid some emissions restrictions and, in the process, introduce what is today one of the world’s most renowned pickups.

The 1999 Ford Super Duty

Today, if you need a truck to help you get the job done, you look to the Ford Super Duty, Ford’s heavy duty pickup. The line was introduced with the F-250 and F-350 pickups with both using a different platform, powertrain and design than in prior years. Thus, Ford’s line of heavy duty pickup trucks was born.

There are many pickup trucks between these historic models, all of which have led to Ford’s status as a premier pickup manufacturer. Today’s newest models, such as the 2018 Ford F-150 Raptor and incoming 2019 Ford Ranger, would not have been possible without Ford’s early innovations in pickup truck development.
