Kurt Busch Shows Off Ford GT at Gold Rush Rally

NASCAR star Kurt Busch recently took some time to show off his 2018 Ford GT at the 2018 Gold Rush Rally, a leading automotive rally that traveled from Boston to Las Vegas in the second half of June.

Busch assembled a team of friends to help showcase the Ford supercar during the rally, since his NASCAR prohibited him from participating in the whole route. Busch, who also owns a 2005 Ford GT given to him by Edsel Ford after winning the 2004 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship, said it’s a treat to be able to own the 2018 Ford GT, as well.

“I love cars and to be able to drive a supercar built by Ford Motor Company daily, or when I get a chance during the week is a privilege.  It’s a special treat to have that car,” Busch said. “That 2005 Ford GT has always meant the world to me and I’ve always treated it like a trophy.  I’ve only driven it three different times and it has less than 100 miles on it, which is one of the reasons I want to drive this 2018 Ford GT as much as possible.”

Busch’s GT has been transformed by his team at Kurt Busch, Inc. by changing the vehicle’s exterior colors from its original state — a factory-produced liquid gray body with orange stripes — to a scheme that closer matches his Ford Fusion race car. The Ford GT supercar features Busch’s car number and Monster and Ford logos.

Busch described the changes to Ford Performance.

“I felt the need to show it to people and to do that by showing it across the country was a win-win for everybody,” he said. “We wanted to create a sports car look, like a car that would run in IMSA, and it also has that NASCAR style flair to it to where the logos were on it.  We enlarged a lot of the Ford logos just so people would realize it’s the Ford GT.”

The former NASCAR champion said he enjoyed showing off his supercar throughout the rally, noting that he believes his vehicle got extra attention.

“We had a great time and didn’t have any problems or issues whatsoever.  It was a blast being with all of the other people who have been on the rally for years or were new this year,” he said.  “They had everything from Lamborghinis to McLarens and even a new Ferrari that was out there, but there was no doubt in my mind that everybody had Ford envy on this rally.”
