Ford SUVs Well-Suited For Families - Part II

As Ford transitions away from sedans and other cars in the next few years, a larger focus is being put on SUVs and crossovers, which are often the vehicles of choice for families. In our previous post, we looked at just how well the roomy Ford Expedition and the super-safe Ford Flex fit family life. They are both great options for large, busy families, but for those seeking something a bit smaller, this post will provide a subcompact SUV and a larger two-row SUV that are capable of handling family demands without the third-row.

If you’re searching for a vehicle that doesn’t have quite the size of the Expedition or the Flex, keep reading to see how Ford has crafted family-friendly vehicles in smaller packages.

The Ford Edge

The 2018 Ford Edge was named the Best Two-Row SUV For The Money by U.S. News & World Report, and even at a quick glance, it’s easy to see why. The Edge has a total passenger volume of 113.9 cubic feet, with 39.2 cubic feet of storage space behind the second row of seats. When the second row is folded down, the 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space expands to 73.4 cubic feet, making the Ford Edge fully capable of hauling both passengers and cargo.

The Edge also packs an abundance of available features designed to make your drive safer and more convenient, including Ford’s Blind-Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, an enhanced active park assist, a front 180-degree camera, and more. Standard on each Ford Edge is a side-impact airbag along with front- and second-row safety canopy side-curtains with a rollover sensor to ensure that all passengers remain as safe as possible in the worst conditions. The Ford Edge is perfectly suited for families who need a larger two-row SUV that is scaled down from Ford’s larger three-row vehicles.

The Ford EcoSport

Ford’s newest SUV may not have the size of the Expedition, Flex, or Edge, but the EcoSport is more than suited to handle the needs of families while providing a more-compact size compared to other Ford SUVs. When it comes to cargo, the EcoSport delivers with a lot of customizable cargo space. It has an adjustable rear load floor, 60/40 fold-flat seatbacks and a cargo management package to give you the space you need all within its subcompact size.

The Ford EcoSport also possesses Ford’s BLIS with cross-traffic alert, along with Safety Canopy System side-curtain airbags, dual-stage driver and front-passenger airbags, and front- and second-row side airbags. Just like the Edge, it has an SOS Post-Crash Alert System so it’s prepared for the worst at any moment. It may not look like a family SUV from the outside, but the 2018 Ford EcoSport is more than capable of keeping up with the rest of Ford's SUVs in terms of family capabilities.
