New Ford Police Interceptor Is Quickest Cop Car In America

Tests conducted by the Michigan State police have rendered the 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility the fastest police vehicle in America, adding another feather in the cap for the country’s best-selling police vehicle.

The Police Interceptor Utility had the best 0-60 mpg and 0-100 mph times, as well as the fastest lap and fastest average lap times of all entries, according to Ford. These entries included sedans equipped with V8 engines.

The Police Interceptor Utility features a hybrid powertrain, standard all-wheel drive an impressive fuel efficiency, traits which led to the vehicle making up 52 percent of all vehicle sales to law enforcement in 2017. Buyers also have the option of a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine.

The 2020 Police Interceptor Utility hybrid is expected to have a fuel efficiency label of 24 mpg, which is a significant upgrade from the current model’s V6 engine. The final EPA-estimated ratings are not yet available, as the fuel economy certification process is not complete.

“Anticipated fuel economy gains, combined with expected fuel savings from reduced engine idling time, are expected to help save law enforcement customers an estimated $3,500 per vehicle in yearly fuel bills versus the current Police Interceptor Utility,” Ford said in a statement.

Additionally, Ford has added over $2,000 of new standard equipment for the 2020 model year.

“This includes a built-in Ford modem with two years of complimentary Ford Telematics service, Bluetooth pass-through voice commands to help officers keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, LED high- and low-beam headlamps with integrated wig-wag capability, four programmable steering wheel switches, Class III trailer-tow bar for up to 5,000 pounds of towing capability and more.” the statement reads.

The 2020 Ford Police Interceptor Utility is available for order now.
