Ford Mustang: the Best-Selling Sports Coupe in the World For Four Years Running

Just last month the Ford Mustang turned 55. This was a big celebration for the company and enthusiasts alike, but even more exciting the Mustang is reportedly the best-selling sports coupe in the world once again.

This marks four years in a row that the Mustang has come out on top.

Across the world, the Mustang is known for its capability and — if we’re honest — cool factor. It’s no wonder that 113,006 cars sold in 2018, but the data from IHS Markit confirms that 2018 was yet another great year for the Mustang. Not only was it the best worldwide, it was sports car period in the United States selling 75,842 vehicles!

Jim Farley, Ford’s president of global markets said, “We broke the mold when Ford launched the Mustang 55 years ago. Nothing says freedom, the wind in your hair, and the joy of driving like Mustang: it’s an icon… No wonder it’s the most popular sports coupe in the world.

The Mustang has long been an American icon, but since it’s become available in 146 countries it’s become a worldwide one. The sixth-gen Mustang has sold more than 500,000 since 2015. The massive boost was fueled partly by the new Mustang Bullitt which exceeded global sales forecasts by 25 percent.

With the new electric Mustang-inspired crossover coming soon from Ford, the Mustang may see another huge bump in sales. The momentum is building for the Mustang, and there doesn’t seem to be anything holding it back. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for the legendary Ford Mustang.
