Ford Debuts All-Electric SUV Mustang- The Mach-E

The first Ford Mustang was released in 1964 and quickly grew to embody the American spirit, representing freedom, speed, and a touch of unruly attitude. Now After 55 years, Ford’s reimaging these ideals to conform to American needs and the way of the future. On Sunday, November 17, 2019, Ford debuted the newest member of Mustang family with the all-electric, SUV, the Mustang Mach-E.

“At the first-ever Detroit auto show, Henry Ford said he was working on something that would strike like forked lightning,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman, Ford Motor Company. “That was the Model T. Today, the Ford Motor Company is proud to unveil a car that strikes like forked lightning all over again. The all-new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast. It’s fun. It’s freedom. For a new generation of Mustang owners.”

The Mustang Mach-E was designed with customization in mind. Ford drivers can choose between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options as well as a standard battery and an extended-range battery option available. In addition to these choices, Ford also is releasing the Mach-E in two performance versions as well: Mustang Mach-E GT and the GT Performance Edition.

As customers can pick and choose their options, the extended-range battery paired with the rear-wheel drive will see 300 miles per full charge. As the first production vehicle to be tuned by the Ford Performance team, the all-wheel drive system has been tried and tested in all weather conditions and tuned to give superior traction on wet and slippery terrains. The Mach-E’s all-wheel drive with extended-range battery is estimated to hit 332 horsepower and 417 lb.-ft. of torque.

Targeting Porsche, the all-wheel drive Mach-E competes with the base Porsche Macan series with faster 0 to 60 mph times. The Mustang Mach-E GT is targeted to hit 0 to 60 mph in under 4 seconds, while the GT Performance Edition is targeted to make 0 to 60 mph in the mid 3 second range, comparable to the Porsche 911 GTS. Both performance versions can produce 459 horsepower and 612 lb.-ft. of torque.

“The Mustang Mach-E wholeheartedly rejects the notion that electric vehicles are only good at reducing gas consumption,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford’s chief product development and purchasing officer. “People want a car that’s thrilling to drive, that looks gorgeous and that can easily adapt to their lifestyle – and the Mustang Mach-E delivers all of this in unmatched style.”

Each offering dynamics and sensory aids to accompany the selected mode, from sportier steering controls to ambient lighting. Each mode will also have accompanying graphics in the cluster view in front of the steering wheel. “Whether you want to really feel its performance capability or are looking for the quiet atmosphere that electric vehicles can offer, the Mach-E harnesses the power of electrification to create a unique driving experience while retaining that unmistakable Mustang feeling of freedom,” said Ted Cannis, Ford enterprise product line director, global electrification. Not only can the Mustang Mach-E perform, but it also comes equipped with ample cargo space. The rear trunk offers 29 cubic feet of space as is. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo space amounts to 59.6 cubic feet. In case you were wondering, there is also a drainable front trunk storage unit. This front storage unit offers 4.8 cubic feet of space, enough to fit a carry-on luggage bag. With the unit offering a drainable plug, this feature is also great to fill with ice and keep drinks cold whether you’re at a pre-game tailgate event or on your way to the beach.

The Mustang Mach-E also comes with a variety of other features everyone will enjoy. The Mach-E offers an available panoramic fixed-glass roof that is prepared with infrared protection to help maintain the internal temperature of the vehicle and block UV rays from entering. Ford families will also enjoy the next generation of SYNC technology. The same infotainment center as before, but better. The new generation includes predictive technology, so it’ll learn the driver’s behaviors and predict accordingly, such as calling home after work. Not only will the Mach-E include the latest technology with SYNC, but it will also debut the latest technology feature of Phone As Key technology.
